Do you have any suggestions on how to effectively study in preparation
for the state exam?

Here are a few guidelines that have proven effective for many of our students:

  1. Make time to study every day.
  2. Look up every answer reference and/or calculate every time you do a sample
question, even if you know the correct answer. Knowing what information can
be found in each book and being proficient with the procedures and calculations
    is key.
  3. Do not memorize or guess. You must strive to understand the material and be
    able to apply it.
  4. Do not rush to take the exam. Those who do the best usually take at least
3 months to study and prepare, often attending class more than once to help
them learn the subjects in greater detail. Remember, once you send in an exam
application and receive approval, you only have 30 days to take the test.

Is there an advantage to studying with the computer based program?

Yes, with the state exams now being computerized, these programs allow
you to do timed, random practice exam simulations on your home computer.
This provides you with an accurate assessment of your current knowledge and
proficiency level. Scoring is automatic and provides a breakdown of performance
in each subject area. You can also use the interactive learning mode, which
allows you to study at your own pace and select which subject(s) to focus on.
